Question :

What is the difference between Geometry string (GC string) and Master String (MC string)?

Answer:

Master Strings : are 6D strings and are generated from an alignment. Each point on Master string has 6 dimensions : x, y, z, chainage, tangent bearing and radius of curve. Each Master string has an associated Geometry string.

Geometry String : has 12 dimensions and store information about an alignment, for example, the horizontal and the vertical tangent points of the strings. A geometry string contains all the information necessary to generate the master string.

Problem Description : MXRoad suite or MXRoad or both not seems to be activated under License Management Tool.

Causes:

  1. First check number of licenses you have for the MXRoad Suite or MXRoad or both and same number of licenses should be activated on the system.

  2. Check shortcut of MX Road Suite, MXRoad or both activated on the desktop or under Start > All programs > Bentley

  3. While activating licenses through Tool > Product Activation Wizard > Server Name should match with the document received by you from the Bentley Systems analyst.

  4. Same Sever Name should be entered under License Management Tool when you select Tools > Options & Tools > Product Activation Wizard.

Solution:

  1. First Activate the license through Start > All programs > Bentley > MX Options > Licensing Tool and If you launched MXRoad Suite or MXRoad, go to File > Cad Menu> Utilities > License Management Tool.

  2. Create Shortcut for MXRoad Suite or MXRoad or both, go to All programs > Bentley > MX Shortcut Generator, select MXRoad Suite or MXRoad or Both.

  3. If you require only MXRoad Suite not MXRoad then first you need to create shortcut for MXRoad Suite and then after only MXRoad Suite seems to be activated under License Management tool.

  4. If MXRoad seems to be activated under License Management Tool and if you require MXRoad Suite instead MXRoad, then delete Shortcut of MXRoad from desktop and create Shortcut for MXRoad Suite.

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Descriptions

Placing Text:  Placing text is similar to using a spreadsheet, the text must be proceeded by a single quote ('). Point numbers, feature codes, elevations, and northing and easting can be placed at the point by using the following format:

'$(NAME)
'$(FCODE)
'$(ELEVATION)
'$(NORTH)
'$(EAST)

The entire point code string (as opposed to just the feature code) can be referred to in the following manner:

'$(CODE)

Attributes can also be placed as text. Each attribute is distinguished by the attribute name. Suppose that one of the attributes for an oak tree is the trunk size. The attribute may be called "SIZE." To place the trunk size on the drawing, enter the following:

'$(SIZE)" OAK

Field notes can be displayed at the point and committed to the design file by keying in the following:

'$(NOTES)

Custom Fonts:  Custom Operations lets you use custom fonts. You can also use fonts other than the active font. To include a font style that is different from the other text in the drawing, you can enter the following:   FT=[font number]

InRoads Survey also supports fonts loaded on your machine as part of the Windows operating system:FT=[font name]

Placing Font Symbols:

'\(numerical code)

Symbology:  You can place text on a specific level with the following command:

LV=[level name]

Positioning Custom Operations:  The software will remember the location and place all text starting from the actual point location.

DY=change in y from the feature point coordinates.
DX=change in x from the feature point coordinates.

LS=active line spacing
PR=precision of the features displayed quantities (used for numerical text). PR does not control elevation output.
PRZ=precision of the features elevation or z-values
CO=color numerical value, attribute with numerical value, or numerical equation
RESET=reset the position to the actual point location
LC=active line style
WT=weight
TX=text size based on numeric value or attribute with numeric value

Placing Lines:

LINE=places a line

MOVE=specifies that the program should move to the specified location following the prompt.

Justification:

JT=RB <=right bottom
JT=RC <=right center
JT=RT <=right top
JT=CT <=center top
JT=CB <=center bottom
JT=CC <=center center
JT=LT <=left top
JT=LC <=left center
JT=LB <=left bottom

Placing Cells/Blocks:

AC=(cell/block name)

Active Scale: The Active Scale command is used only for scaling cells.

AS=scale
AS=$(numerical attribute)

Active Angle:  You can define an absolute angle for rotating all graphics placed with custom operations using the active angle command, as follows:

AA=$(<attrib>)

where <attrib> specifies an attribute that defines an angle value. For example, the attribute can be named ROTATE, and the Active Angle operation can be used.

Alpha Operators:  There are only two operators that act on alpha attributes:

Operator

Explanation

=

True if the alpha attributes being compared are exactly alike.

<>

True if the alpha attributes are different.

Numeric Operators:

Operator

Explanation

=

True if the numeric attributes being compared have the same value.

<>

True if the numeric attributes have different values.

True if the value of the first numeric attribute is greater than the value of the second.

True if the value of the first numeric attribute is less than the value of the second.

>=

True if the value of the first numeric attribute is greater than or equal to the value of the second.

<=

True if the value of the first numeric attribute is less than or equal to the value of the second

If either of the attribute values involved in an IF statement contains an alphabetic character, the attributes are compared as alpha attributes, using the alpha operators. An operator is seen as a numeric operator only if both attributes being compared are numeric.

Math Functions:  Math functions are supported which allow the use of variables. All basic math functions (+, -, *, /) are supported. Exponents are also supported (such as 3**2 (value of 9)). However, the software does not check for floating-point overflow. This mathematical command should be used with caution.

Lookup Tables:  Lookup tables are used to assign certain values to field key-ins based on the criteria you specify. This relieves the field crews from long key-ins and other items that only regard drawing production (font symbols, cells, math calculations, and so on). For example, when a surveyor enters numerical or alpha characters for an attribute, the lookup table will manipulate the value to place text, change fonts, insert font symbols, and so on.

Lookup=(Table Name)

Find Tables:  Find tables are similar to lookup tables because they are used to place text based on attribute value. The difference is that the find table can place multiple descriptions based on the number of characters placed in the attribute field.

Find=(value)

Question: Does target aliasing work in similar fashion in GEOPAK?
Answer: Yes this technology exists in GEOPAK, InRoads and MX.

Question: I was wondering about using End Conditions in a corridor that passes through a zone that has multiple stratum.How can we use a different slope for every strata of the soil/existing terrain? Can OpenRoads calculate volumes of cut for every strata?
Answer: You can have targets that seek different surfaces. The cut volumes can be calculated using End Area Volumes.

December 2015 - See What I Mean? Visually Communicating Your Design with LumenRT

Question: What are the suggested computer hardware requirements? (ie, video card, memory, processor)
Answer: The best results will be obtained with a high-quality gaming-style graphics card (2GB video memory on video card and 4GB or more of hard drive memory).

Question: Are there any limitations with model size or road length?
Answer: Any limitations would be based on your graphics card. There are no set limits when exporting from MicroStation Connect 64bit.

Question: Can you slice through the display to create a cross section?
Answer: Yes, you can generate cross sections.

Question: What kind of man-hour effort was required to develop this model or a similar model suitable for public presentation?

Question:

When mapping point within the Edit Transition command, I use the Window Area command to close in on my point.  However, when I select the Window Area command, I lose my dynamic link from my original point.

Solution:

After selecting your point to map, use the scroll wheel on your mouse to zoom in and out, this will allow you to zoom in to your desired point.
