Can GEOPAK SS2/SS3 be installed on the same machine as GEOPAK SS4?

Revision 2 posted to GEOPAK | InRoads | MX | OpenRoads Wiki by Kevin McDonald on 7/19/2016 6:41:04 PM

Product(s):GEOPAK
Version(s):08.11.09+
Area: Basic Settings
Original Author:Bentley Technical Support Group

Question:

Can GEOPAK SS2 and SS4 be installed on the same machine?

Answer:

GEOPAK SS2 can be installed on the same machine as GEOPAK SS4 (or SS3) with the following recommendations:

  • Access the softwares using their respective icons (with either the "-wsLoad_GEOPAK_SS2=1" or "-wsLoad_GEOPAK_SS4=1" set).  If this switch had previously been set with a CFG file at the system level, it will have to be removed and set on the icons.
  • Use separate MicroStation preferences (username & projectname) while using GEOPAK SS2 & GEOPAK SS4.
  • Keep SS2 and SS4 datasets separate between the two versions.
  • In order to run certain VBA based commands, it may be necessary to re-run the 'geopakcom' file in the version of software you are running. For example, before running an SS2 VBA command, execute the "geopakcom.exe" file  located in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\GEOPAK\V8.11\bin" folder. Then, when switching to run a VBA command in SS4, run the "geopakcom.exe" file in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\GEOPAK\GEOPAK (SELECTseries 4)\bin" folder.  More information on registering the geopakcom.dll can be found here:

NOTE: GEOPAK SS3 and SS4 can not be installed at the same time.

Due to the enhanced functionality of Bentley OpenRoads, when working with large and/or complex data, users may experience performance issues when processing corridor data. To address this, OpenRoads has several built in tools and settings which will optimize corridor processing. We have also gathered suggestions from a variety of engineers, designers, and developers which have been proven to increase processing speeds.

The PowerPoint presentation, video, and supplemental files contained in the wiki will provide information on various techniques that will greatly enhance the speed at with a corridor is processed.

Why am I Pulling a License for Subsurface Utilities Design and Analysis (SUDA)?

Current Revision posted to GEOPAK | InRoads | MX | OpenRoads Wiki by Kevin McDonald on 8/4/2016 2:59:21 PM

Product(s):InRoads/MX/GEOPAK
Version(s):08.11.09.845+
Area: Subsurface Utilities

Question:

When I launch my civil product, why do I see that I have activated Subsurface Utilities Design and Analysis?

Additionally, I see that in my license log I have Product ID 2174 active.

Answer:

Product ID 2174 is the Subsurface Utilities Design and Analysis license. When installed, Subsurface Utilities Design and Analysis functionality loads when OpenRoads starts. This product ID represents the 100 inlets level of StormCAD and is included at no additional fee with most OpenRoads packages.

It is possible that you might see Product ID 2174 listed multiple times. This is a known issue that, while it might be a bit confusing, does not affect your license fees.

Bentley Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) is a separate part of SUDA with Product ID 2335. It will appear only when you activate Bentley SUE from the tools menu. Note that the SUE Product ID is shown in addition to the StormCAD for OpenRoads ID.

If you activate one of the advanced hydraulic design products then you will see one of the following Product IDs alongside the 2174 ID. All of these are subject to additional license fees.

  • 1246 – StormCAD Unlimited Inlets
  • 1207 – CivilStorm
  • 1243 – SewerCAD
  • 1244 – SewerGEMS

Question:

Which of the OpenRoads products include Subsurface Utilities Design and Analysis at no extra fee?

Answer:

The Bentley Subsurface Utility Design and Analysis (SUDA) tools that are included in most OpenRoads packages include the "StormCAD 100 Inlets" functionality at no extra charge. It is included for all packages of GEOPAK, InRoads, or MX which contained a drainage design product in SS3 or previous versions.

With the exception of PowerSurvey, products which do not include Subsurface Utility Design and Analysis free of charge can activate it using StormCAD licenses; however, the minimum level of hydraulic design capability is StormCAD Unlimited.  Usage will be charged against a StormCAD license.  If you do not own a StormCAD license, overages will accrue.

The following table identifies which products include and which products do not include SUDA functionality with "StormCAD 100 Inlets" at no extra charge:
